God’s Way To Salvation: How To Become A Christian
Hear: Acts 2:22, Rom 10:17
God’s plan involves man being taught the Gospel of Jesus Christ. How can one believe except he is taught the facts of the Death, Burial and Resurrection of Christ? God’s word is the standard for teaching and the basis of what is taught so that men can believe.
Believe:Acts 2:37, Heb 11:6, Rom 10:9
Man must decide if he believes the facts of the Gospel. This is evidenced by the question the men asked on the day of Pentecost: “Men and brethren what shall we do” This was in response to the Gospel message preached by Peter, and it shows that they believed the message.
Repent:Acts 2:38, 17:30
The command to repent went out to men when the church was first opened in Acts 2. The listener after determining that they believe the message, must be willing to turn away from a lifestyle that is not pleasing to God, and they must turn toward God and his will for their life.
Confession:Acts 2:37, Rom 8:37, 10:9
Confession is the acknowledgment that Jesus is the Son of God. The Ethiopian eunuch echoed this by acknowledging the sweetest name on mortal tongue, when he said “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God”.
Baptism:Acts 2:38, 41, 8:36-38
The baptism commanded by God is an immersion in water. We see the command given when the church first opened in Acts 2, and we see countless examples of men and women obeying this command. We also learn that it must be done with a sense of urgency: Acts 2 shows the same day, Acts 16:33 show the same hour of the night. Proper Biblical baptism can only be done after proper teaching.
Added:Acts 2:47, 1 Cor 12:13, Col 1:13
We learn from the scriptures that the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit are instrumental in adding a person to the spiritual body (Church) of Christ, after they have obeyed the commands of the gospel. We see a clear pattern showing that the Lord added only after proper teaching, and submission to baptism according to Acts 2:41, and 47
